Trump Invincible, Clinton Leading, Sunday TV Talk Guests for 8/30/2015

DONALD TRUMP 2016

Our Comment

Controversies are the fuel keeping Donald Trump’s political fire burning.

He has so dominated the field of candidates in GOP Primary 2016 that Mike Huckabee, a former FOX host who is running for the GOP Presidential nomination, said that Trump easily gets 10x the media coverage of any of the GOP contenders.

That’s true.

And, viewers and voters are engaged.

POLITICO, in a post by Ben Schreckinger and Hadas Gold, states:

[Twitter] Trump’s biggest jumps in followers on Twitter occurred on the day of the first GOP debate and the day after, when he gained a total of 139,769 followers, even as he was being grilled by Fox’s moderators and attacking Kelly, according to data provided by Twitter.

His other big jumps occurred this week on Monday and Tuesday, right as he was again lambasting Fox News host Megyn Kelly and throwing Univision and Fusion anchor Jorge Ramos out of a press conference.

He gained 63,208 followers.

As of Thursday evening, he boasted 3.9 million followers to his Twitter account, the source of his many rants that often come in the wee hours of the night.

All of the controversy only draws more attention to him.

[TV/Cable] The television shows he touches turn to ratings gold.

The most obvious is the first GOP primary debate, hosted by Fox. Expectations were high, but the result blew everyone away, with 24 million viewers on a Thursday night in August with the general election more than a year away.

It was the highest-rated telecast in Fox News’ 20-year history.

[VIDEO/Live Stream] On last Friday, a live feed of Trump’s campaign rally in Alabama was the most-watched show in all of cable TV that day.

[CNN] That same week, CNN’s hour-long interview with Trump was the most-watched show on the network that day with 1.14 million viewers.

[Meet The Press/NBC] NBC’s “Meet the Press” interview with Trump garnered the Sunday show its highest ratings in more than a year.

[Morning Joe/MSNBC] According to the Associated Press, when Trump has called into MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” viewership rose 22 percent from what the talk show averaged 10 minutes prior to his call.

On July 24, the size of the audience jumped 47 percent while Trump spoke.

Our Conclusion

Should those trends continue, Trump will have the GOP Primary 2016 nomination wrapped up by January.

HILLARY CLINTON 2016

POLITICO also reports, in a post by Gabriel Debenedetti, that the ‘Democratic elite rally around Hillary Clinton.’

Debenedetti commented:

Hillary Clinton delivered a show of force on Friday meant to make one thing abundantly clear to Democratic leaders, Bernie Sanders, and Joe Biden-

She is the boss.

Our Comment

Email controversy or scandal notwithstanding, no strategist should seriously doubt that Hillary indeed is the boss.

Hillary will take the Democratic Primary 2016 nomination.

The only issue which remains for Hillary and Democrats to resolve is who will be Hillary’s VP running mate.

Our Bet

Martin O’Malley.

1 Response to Trump Invincible, Clinton Leading, Sunday TV Talk Guests for 8/30/2015

  1. Eric Voc says:

    ENDNOTE ONE
Dr. David Zurawik, writing in his ‘Z on TV’ column for The Baltimore Sun which covers the business and culture of TV, talks about the power of TV for Presidential Campaigns 2016 after the Democratic National Committee’s summer meeting in Minneapolis.
Zurawik said that “[party] leaders still don’t seem to get the political message of the summer: It’s TV, not the powers that be, from which voters are taking their presidential cues.”

That being the case, Trump clearly has the advantage when it comes to taking the GOP Primary 2016 nomination.
Trump also will have an advantage in the General Election 2016.
